How does ordering a custom Palestinian wedding dress work?
Our process has 3 simple steps: a consultation call, a design proposal, and production. Each step takes your dream design, budget and timeline into account.
What do we discuss in the consultation call?
Every design detail: your event (wedding, engagement, henna, nikkah, katb ktab and more), silhouette, fabric and color palette, embroidery type and placement (hand or machine), tatreez motifs, thread colors and the symbols you'd like to include, plus accessories such as shawls and headpieces.
What's the difference between hand and machine embroidery?
Hand-embroidered pieces are stitched by Palestinian refugee artisans at Deerah's studio in Amman, Jordan, supporting a sustainable income and the continuity of tatreez. Machine-embroidered pieces offer precise detailing with a shorter production time. Both are customized and tailored to your measurements.
How long does a custom wedding dress take?
Production time depends on the amount of embroidery. Hand-embroidered designs take 1 to 6 months; machine-embroidered designs take 1 to 2 months. Once the embroidery is finished, your piece is assembled, dry cleaned and packed for shipping.
Will I see my design before it's made?
Yes. After your consultation call, our team prepares a rough sketch of your design and a proposal. For a detailed design, you can request a full tech pack (front and back illustrations, technical drawings, your motif design in your chosen colors, and an embroidered fabric swatch) for an additional design fee, paid in advance and non-refundable. We also make a raw fabric prototype, so you can get a feel for the piece's shape and measurements before we implement the design on the final fabric.
Can I request fabric swatches or make changes to my design?
Yes, you can request fabric swatches. Your first minor design change is free; further changes are priced according to their complexity and time.
Do you design dresses for henna, engagement or katb ktab?
Yes. Each event deserves its own look, and we design dresses and thobes for weddings, engagements, henna nights, nikkah and katb ktab ceremonies.
