A tribute to Palestinian Urban “Madani” fashion

Pre 1948,  the women in urban areas were exposed to different cultures through trade, education and travel. They started incorporating these different styles and cuts to their everyday wear. They opted for more simple cuts with little to no embroidery.

They shifted away from tradition and towards modern, relevant and trendy fashion choices. Arguably, this could have been a step in the wrong direction, but Palestinian existence wasn’t under attack hence tatreez was not considered an art of resistance but a mere fashion choice.

At this time women were making fashion choices that were unconventional to the region. Experimenting with more masculine cuts , lesser known textiles and new embroideries. Making fashion an act of rebellion and a push against the norm.

This collection is a tribute to the trendy and defiant urban “Madani” women.
